Born and raised on Long Island, New York, Jahlil has always been the entertainer of the family. From the age of about 8, Jahlil would frequently direct, choreograph, and star in performances for him and his cousins to showcase for the family. Jahlil was sure of his dream to become a doctor, so the events were viewed as just a hobby. He found his love for musical theatre and opera during his time at Malverne High School. Through the loving nudge from his chorus instructor Kenny Zagare after hearing him sing, Jahlil auditioned for his high school’s Select Choir and the school’s production of “Seussical” (If you know, you know). The combination of being in a musical for the first time and winning a vocal competition after having his first ever solo in the choir, the trajectory of his life was abruptly altered.
After graduating high school, Jahlil went on to Hofstra University to pursue his bachelor’s degree in music, with a concentration in classical vocal performance. He performed with the Hofstra Chorale and Chamber Choir while there, deepeninghis love for music; more specifically, his love for musical theatre grew more. He later made another pivot to perform in musicals at various theaters throughout Long Island while fine tuning his skills as a performing artist. As a result, Jahlil has traveled the United States, as well as several countries around the world performing in national tours, regional theaters, as well as cruise ships. He was finally living his dream. All while completing his bachelor’s degree in entertainment business from Full Sail University.
Outside of performing, Jahlil loves spending time with his family and friends, swimming, dancing, traveling, bowling, and playing with dogs. He is known to be the dad of all his friend groups. The group chats come alive and spreadsheets begin to flow about vacation plans when he has any down time. He is very passionate about creating genuine connections and long-lasting memories. Cultivating spaces which are inviting and nurturing is very important to Jahlil and remains one of his main goals in life.
